LUNA RYAN GLASS

$180.00

Luna Ryan is an artist inspired by everything around her, from the physical to the mental. Whether it’s a seedpod, an old piece of machinery, or a shell, she transforms found objects into stunning glass sculptures or otherworldly creatures. A simple piece of wood can become a house, shed, or even a town hall in her creative hands.

In recent years, Ryan has embraced recycled and found materials in her work, particularly using recycled television screens. These materials add a unique texture and depth to her glass pieces, bringing new life to discarded objects. The works she presents at The Hub General Store are often inspired by beautifully grained building timbers, which she transforms into intricate, one-of-a-kind art. Her primary medium is glass, and she works with crystal made in Victoria by Blackwood Crystal, as well as recycled materials like television screens—each chosen not only for their aesthetic beauty but for their sustainability. All her work is proudly made in Canberra.

Ryan uses the lost wax kiln casting technique to create her glass pieces. She starts by making rubber moulds from objects that inspire her, then creates a wax replica. After coating the wax in a mould made from pottery plaster, silica flour, and brick dust, she heats it to around 850°C in a kiln. The wax is steamed out, and glass is poured in, flowing into the mould. The piece is then slowly cooled, which can take up to two weeks. Once cooled, it’s meticulously ground and polished to Luna’s artistic vision.

In addition to her independent work, Ryan designed the inaugural MAMA (Music Act Music Awards) trophy and has collaborated with various artists, expanding her creative reach.

Through her meticulous process, Luna Ryan transforms found objects, recycled television screens, and other materials into glass masterpieces, all made with care and precision in Canberra.
